The Center for Contemporary Opera was recently awarded a substantial grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation exclusively for support of our development programs (Libretto readings, Ateliers, Concert Readings).  To learn more about our various programs, please visit our programs page.

The Center for Contemporary Opera welcomes submissions of completed or in-progress scores and libretti. Operas that have been commissioned or have received a performance commitment will receive priority.

To apply, please send:

1. Score or libretti (piano/vocal score acceptable)

2. Background of the composer/librettists and any previous performance history of the work.

3. Cover letter stating: a) the composer/librettist has obtained permission to adapt the source material for an opera, b) if the opera has been commissioned or received a performance commitment along with pertinent details.

The deadline for submissions is July 1, 2013 and the selected works will be announced as soon as possible . Please send your package to:

After review, your scores and libretti will be placed in the CCO Score Library.  You will retain all performance rights and copyright. If you are not interested in being considered for this program, please include a stamped-self addressed envelope for the return of your score.

We also accept submissions of completed operas for a possible full production by CCO.  Prior to submitting your work, we ask that you contact us at js@conopera.org giving details of your work and any past performance history.
