Submissions
“This invaluable little company serves as a
clearinghouse for all sorts of operas.”
-The New Yorker

The Center for Contemporary Opera welcomes submissions from composers and librettists. To learn more about our various programs, please visit our programs page.
If you would like your score considered, please send:
Composers (Ateliers, Production)
1. A piano vocal score
2. CD, if available
3. Libretto
4. Information about the composer and librettist
5. Performance history of the work.
Librettists (Prima le Parole series)
1. Libretto
2. Information about you and the libretto
3. History of the work to include any discussions with potential composers
Each item must have your name, address, phone number and e-mail address printed on it.
The Center is particularly interested in receiving scores of works-in-progress or completed works of emerging composers who would benefit by having ateliers (or workshop) performances of these works. However, we support and encourage the development of all types of opera and new music theater, ranging from the most avant-garde to Broadway.
Your scores and libretti may also be selected for submission to the CCO Collection at the Library of Performing Arts. If selected, you will be contacted to release the physical copy of the score to the Library. You will retain all performance rights and copyright. For more information about this program, please visit our CCO Collection page. If you are not interested in being considered for this program, please include a stamped-self addressed envelope for the return of your score.
Process
Scores may be submitted to CCO any time during the year. At least annually, typically in the fall, CCO’s artistic committee will review the scores. ThisĀ committee includes our Artistic Director, Composer-in Residence, musically proficient Board members, and members of our advisory council. We will update our news page when the Committee begins its review.
Following the review process, you will be notified of acceptance. At the same time, you will be told if your score was selected for inclusion in the CCO Collection at the Library for the Performing Arts. If so, we will ask your permission to gift the score to the Library.
For additional information, please contact the General Director, Jim Schaeffer at js@conopera.org
